A dog was discovered with its paws taped together and its mouth taped shut Saturday.

Carl Allen, one of the Good Samaritans who helped rescue a dog found on the side of a Colorado road with its muzzle taped shut and legs taped together, says at first he wasn't sure what he was seeing was real.

"The dog was standing still and we just saw the white tape on the mouth and I said 'is that a dog with its mouth taped shut?'" Allen said.

Allen and a friend were traveling along Platte River Drive near the intersection of Huron Street when he says he saw the dog in the middle of the street. Allen and two people driving by jumped out of their cars to help the dog. He says it initially tried to get away.

"The dog started urinating on itself it was so terrified. We just kept trying to pet it and tell it that everything was ok, that we're just trying to help you" Allen said.

Eventually, the Good Samaritans were able to remove the tape from the dog and animal control took the 8-month-old German Shepherd into their care. As of Sunday, the dog was doing well.

Allen says he was raised always having dogs around and can't understand why anyone would want to hurt an innocent, defenseless dog. He says he has a message for the person that did.

"I hope karma comes back around a gets them good, they need to go to jail," he said.
