Cleveland Indians to honor Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School during Spring Training opener

All 30 Major League teams will don the Marjory Stoneman Douglas baseball hat following the mass shooting that killed 17 victims at the school.

On Friday, the Cleveland Indians will make their 2018 Spring Training debut when they take the field in Goodyear, Ariz. for a 3:05 p.m. ET matchup with the Cincinnati Reds.

When they do so, the Indians will pay homage to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., which was the site of the mass shooting that left 17 victims dead a week ago.

The Indians -- and all other 29 Major League Baseball teams -- will wear hats from the Marjory Stoneman Douglas baseball team prior to games during Spring Training's opening weekend. Teams will also be given the option to wear the hats during their games this weekend, although it remains unclear whether or not the Indians will do so.

According to USA Today, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred, speaking in Glendale, Ariz., said there was a "really strong sentiment of the clubs it was the appropriate thing to do immediately." The Miami Marlins, whose stadium is located less than an hour's drive from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, had initially asked for permission to wear the school's cap. The Marlins will also wear special shirts and caps during batting practice with the inscription #17douglasstrong.

Several clubs will also be signing the caps and auctioning them to raise money for the Broward Education Foundation, the official victims fund.
