Family of Tanisha Anderson schedules Tuesday evening rally

Te rally will be at 5 p.m.

CLEVELAND -- The family of Tanisha Anderson, the woman who died while in police custody in 2014, has scheduled a rally Tuesday evening.

The rally will take place at the intersection of Ansel Road and Superior Avenue at 5 p.m.

The city on Monday announced disciplinary action against the two Cleveland Division of Police officers involved in Anderson's death. Officer Scott Aldridge was suspended 10 days and officer Bryan Myers received a written warning. Both were exonerated by a grand jury last month.

Anderson, 37, died in November 2014 when her family called police because she was having a mental health episode. Her family said she suffered from schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

Anderson struggled with the officers and was shoved facedown to the ground and placed in handcuffs. She became unconscious and later died at a hospital.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner ruled Anderson’s death a homicide by legal intervention and physical restraint in a prone position, adding that bipolar disorder and heart disease were also factors.

Anderson's relatives have claimed the officers used excessive force. The family reached a settlement with the city of Cleveland for $2.25 million last year.
