CLEVELAND -- One week after the official start of free agency, the Cleveland Browns continued to overhaul their roster, agreeing to terms with free agent cornerback E.J. Gaines.

The NFL Network's Mike Garafolo first reported Gaines' signing.

A 2014 sixth-round pick, Gaines spent the first two seasons of his career playing for the St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams, where played for current Browns defensive coordinator Gregg Williams. After being traded for wide receiver Sammy Watkins, Gaines spent the 2017 season with the Buffalo Bills, where he started 11 games and recorded 9 pass defenses and 1 interception.

The addition of Gaines comes one week after what was an active start to the offseason for the Browns -- particularly in the Cleveland secondary. In addition to Gaines, the Browns acquired defensive back Damarious Randall from the Green Bay Packers in a trade and signed free agent cornerbacks T.J. Carrie and Terrance Mitchell.

Over the course of his three-year career -- Gaines sat out the 2015 season due to a foot injury -- the Missouri product has started in 25 of the 26 games in which he appeared in. His best season came in his rookie campaign in 2014, when he started 15 games and recorded 70 tackles, 15 pass defenses and two interceptions for the Rams.

With the Browns having also traded veteran cornerback Jason McCourty to the New England Patriot, Gaines -- who also visited the Arizona Cardinals as a free agent -- will likely see significant playing time in his career in Cleveland.

No word yet on the terms of Gaines' contract.
