An 10-year-old boy who was rescued from the waters of Mill Creek Falls Saturday afternoon in Cleveland has died, officials confirm.
The news comes "despite initial improvement on scene and later at [MetroHealth Medical Center], where the boy was said to be "awake and alert."
The boy has since been identified as J'Meirre Williams of Cleveland. He had been submerged in the water around 2 p.m. before being pulled out and revived by fire and EMS crews. A 16-year-old girl was also recovered from the scene and did not suffer life-threatening injuries.
Metroparks rangers are expected to handle the investigation.
EDITOR'S NOTE: A previous version of this story listed the boy as being 11 years old and the girl as being 13 years old. This was based on preliminary information from the Cleveland Division of Fire, and has since been corrected.
