CANTON — The National First Ladies' Library in Canton has opened an exhibit to honor former first lady Barbara Bush who died at the age of 92 on Tuesday.

The library's staff and curator spent hours on Tuesday night and early morning Wednesday setting up the exhibit that includes letters, campaign pins, books, photos and videos of Mrs. Bush. The exhibit in honor of the former first lady sits beside another exhibit honoring Mary Regula, founder of the library and friend of Mrs. Bush. Regula passed away two weeks ago at the age of 91.

The board and staff of the National First Ladies' Library are deeply sorry to hear of the passing of former First Lady Barbara Bush. We will always be grateful for the strong support of our organization by Mrs. Bush and the Bush family.

Dubbed the "silver fox", Mrs. Bush was known for her tough, no-nonsense approach as well as for her charm and quick wit, which made her widely popular. The American public found her outspoken perspective refreshing.

Only the second woman to be wife of one President and mother to another, Mrs. Bush was a down-to-earth strong matriarch and was widely acknowledged as the rock of the Bush family.

Mrs. Bush was a determined advocate of family literacy and of women's rights. The Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy will stand as a cornerstone of her legacy.

We extend our sincere sympathies to the Bush family.
