13-year-old boy tied with cord, pistol-whipped in attempted Cleveland kidnapping

The suspects knocked him to the ground, hit him in the head at least two times with a pistol and punched him repeatedly as they tried to tie him up with an extension cord.

CLEVELAND -- New details have been released in Tuesday’s attempted kidnapping of a 13-year-old boy in Cleveland.

The boy told police he was walking from a house on W. 38th Street and heading west on Denison when he was approached by three males around 4:30 a.m.

The suspects knocked him to the ground, hit him in the head at least two times with a pistol and punched him repeatedly as they tried to tie him up with an extension cord, according to a police report. They also tried to take his belt, but the boy wrestled himself free and fled to a nearby gas station for help.

The boy was treated at the hospital with head lacerations.

Authorities say the suspects were inside a silver Dodge Magnum, which was reported stolen. As police attempted a traffic stop, three males jumped out of the vehicle and fled at Philena Avenue.

All three are on the run, and police warn they are still likely armed. Two of the suspects are believed to be in their 20s, while the other is believed to be a juvenile.

The child’s mother, meanwhile, was issued a curfew citation.
