Cleveland Indians activate Tyler Naquin, place Yonder Alonso on Family Medical Emergency List

The Cleveland Indians have activated outfielder Tyler Naquin and placed infielder Yonder Alonso on the Family Medical Emergency List.

CLEVELAND -- Outfielder Tyler Naquin is back with the Cleveland Indians.

Out of the lineup for more than a month because of hamstring issues, Naquin has returned from the disabled list and will start in center field in tonight’s American League Central Division game between the Indians and Minnesota Twins at Progressive Field.

Naquin returns to the Major League level after a minor-league rehab assignment, where he went two for 18 with six strikeouts in six games.

In 30 games with the Indians this season, Naquin has 25 hits in 75 at-bats with three doubles and two home runs to go along with nine runs scored, 11 RBI and three walks.

Naquin has a .333 batting average with a .367 on-base, .453 slugging and .820 on-base-plus-slugging percentages at the Major League level this season.

To make room for Naquin on the roster, the Indians placed infielder Yonder Alonso on the Family Medical Emergency List. Alonso can be out between three and seven days, missing a minimum of three games.

“We were going to option Greg Allen back to Triple-A, but Yonder has kind of a family emergency going on, so we put him on that three-day (list),” Indians manager Terry Francona said in his pre-game press conference.

“We wanted to give him a couple days to take care of what he needs to, so we told Greg he would stay here with us. He knows the situation, so that’s where we’re at roster-wise.”
