eBay launches new eBay@Home program in Akron

Akron has been selected to launch the program, which is designed to better serve local buyers and sellers using the popular commerce site.

AKRON -- eBay is making Akron the launch city of its new eBay@Home program.

"We came here in the hope of finding a partner for the U.S. launch of our retail revival program," Chris Librie of eBay said.

Why Akron?

Librie said they were chose the Summit County city because they were looking for that "magical mix of spirit, grit and optimism that eBay itself proudly embodies."

eBay@Home is the company's first formal work-from-home customer service program.

"We exist to help our customers and solve their problems in the quickest, simplest, easiest way possible, and make them feel great about eBay along the way," Paul Gasly of eBay said. "eBay@Home was one of our first steps toward this goal."

In this program, full-time eBay employees are hired to work from home. These workers take between 45-50 calls from customers per day.

Soon, the Akron program will expand to Salt Lake City, Utah, and Austin, Texas. This will bring the eBay@Home team to 300 employees.
