CLEVELAND -- Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield presented wide receiver Jarvis Landry with a custom t-shirt to commemorate the 21-17 victory over the New York Jets at FirstEnergy Stadium Thursday night.

As Landry walked off the podium following his press conference, Mayfield shared an embrace with his wide receiver and handed him a “Bless ‘Em” t-shirt with the words “Browns Beat Jets” and the date of the game printed in orange.

“Just the mentality, the attitude that he has always approached it since he stepped into this building, never doubted him,” Landry said of Mayfield. “I don’t think there is a coach or a player in this building who has doubted him or felt like we were in a disadvantage when he came onto the field. That is something that you have to love about him. That is why he was the first pick. That is why he was the Heisman Trophy winner. You saw it tonight first hand.”

Landry was on the receiving end of eight passes for 103 yards against the Jets, and most of those catches came after Mayfield entered the game in the second quarter for Tyrod Taylor, who suffered a concussion in the first half.

Of Landry’s eight receptions, seven came from Mayfield, and the two combined on 91 yards.

Not one to shy away from the moment, Mayfield came out firing and completed back-to-back throws for a combined 31 yards, and after being stripped of the football on a sack, came back and threw a 16-yard completion to Landry on the ensuing play.

“He is special,” Landry said. “He is really special. Last week, I had a chance to sit down with him after the compliment from (Saints quarterback) Drew Brees. He did not get a big head or anything.

“He took advantage of the moment and the opportunity. We always have seen him make these plays. As far back as when the Baker Mayfield story started, he has always made these types of plays. It is awesome to be a part of it.”

Mayfield completed three of his four attempts for 47 yards on his first drive of the game, which resulted in a 45-yard field goal from rookie kicker Greg Joseph, who was signed Monday and had just one full day of practice to acclimate himself to the team.

Mayfield completed 17 of his 23 attempts for 201 yards in the victory, the first for the Browns since December 24, 2016.

“As bright as these lights,” Landry said of Mayfield’s future. “As bright as these lights. Anything else would be an understatement.”
