Has a new era begun for the Cleveland Browns? The Donovan Live Postgame Show

Jim Donovan and Dave "Dino" DeNatale wonder if the times really are changing for the Cleveland Browns after Thursday's emotional victory over the Jets.

Now that everyone has had a few days to process things after the Browns' win over the Jets on Thursday night, what do you think?

I think something amazing happened. One of the most passionate fan bases in all of sports has awoken from a long slumber and has been filled with hope for the first time in a long while.

Am I overreacting? Yes, it had been a long time since the team had won a game. Yes, there was free beer on the line, thanks to Bud Light, so naturally things were brought up a notch.

But something felt really different after that win.

Jim Donovan clearly felt something special had happened, given this call and this reaction after Joe Schobert's interception helped seal the victory.

This wasn't just another win.

After 29 other quarterbacks have gone through the revolving door of doom, it feels like the Browns finally have the right guy under center. Baker Mayfield can play. Baker Mayfield can lead. Baker Mayfield has the chance to be something special.

Denzel Ward is everything the Browns had hoped he would be and more. The former Nordonia Knight came up with a critical strip and recovery to help ignite the Browns' comeback on Thursday and has already won a Defensive Rookie of the Week award.

And of course, we already have an idea about the potential greatness of Myles Garrett.

There are young, talented players all over this roster.

The defense is really good.

Now all that said, this is by no means a complete football team. As Jimmy points out in our conversation, the Browns' special teams are a disaster right now. There will be ups and downs for Mayfield and many of these youngsters during the grind of a long season.

All that said, there is finally a reason to believe that this franchise, with these players, and this front office, is on the right path.

I was thinking about the movie The Shawshank Redemption over the weekend in pondering the Browns. The line from Andy Dufresne in a letter to Red is so how I feel about this football team and its fan base: "Remember Red, hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies."
