Running back Nick Chubb says the Cleveland Browns "just kept playing and never gave up" in their 26-20 victory over the Carolina Panthers in Cleveland.

CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Browns talked all week about wanting to get back that winning feeling after a loss to the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium in Houston last Sunday snapped their modest two-game streak, and that is exactly what happened at FirstEnergy Stadium.

Despite playing from behind or even for much of the game, the Browns got nine fourth-quarter points on the way to a 26-20 victory over the Carolina Panthers.

“We just kept playing and never gave up,” running back Nick Chubb said. “On the next play, everyone needs to step up and do things right. I think we did that today, and it put us in a good position to win the game. The defense had a great stop, which enabled us to run some of the clock out and win the game.”

Although the Browns won the game on Sunday, Chubb believes the victorious mindset started long before they took the field against the Panthers.

“It starts in practice,” Chubb said.

“All of our coaches did a great job of getting our minds and everything where it needs to be. Then, it just becomes a monster in us. We really believe that we can play with anyone and beat anyone. We know that we have worked extremely hard to get where we are, and we feel like we are a great team.”

Including Sunday’s win over the Panthers, the Browns are 5-7-1 on the season and 4-2-1 at FirstEnergy Stadium, which means they will finish the year with a better than .500 record at home for the first time since 2007.

“It’s really good,” defensive lineman Larry Ogunjobi said. “That’s what they drafted us for. I think the biggest thing is that it’s just time for a change. I feel that we have the pieces we need, and it’s starting to show, week-in and week-out, that we do have a really solid team.”

Although the Browns have won three of their last four games and find themselves still “in the hunt” for a wildcard spot in the AFC Playoffs, the players are not resting on past accomplishments, not when there is plenty still left to pursue in 2018.

“Our goal is to finish with a winning record for the first time in a long time,” defensive back Damarious Randall said.

“Every game is important, even if we aren’t going to the playoffs, and we still want to finish 8-7-1 regardless. Even if we have to ruin somebody else’s playoff hopes, we really do not care. We are going into winning every game.”
