Betting odds favor Josh McDaniels to be Cleveland Browns' next head coach

BetOnline.ag favors New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels to be the next head coach of the Cleveland Browns.

It's now been five days since the Cleveland Browns officially began their coaching search.

And thus far, there's been little clarity as to who the team's hire will be.

While the Browns have confirmed they've interviewed interim head coach Gregg Williams and have been linked to several other candidates, a front-runner for the team's vacancy has yet to emerge.

At least not publically.

On Friday, BetOnline.ag released its most recent round of odds for the Browns coaching search. And according to the site, one candidate has managed to separate himself from the pack, with New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels being listed as the betting favorite.

At +350, McDaniels edges out Williams, Browns offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens and New Orleans Saints assistant head coach Dan Campbell, each of whom have been listed at +500. For the betting uninitiated, a successful $100 wager on McDaniels would return $350, while winning $100 bets on Williams, Kitchens and Campbell would return $500.

The entire odds given were as follows:

  • Josh McDaniels +350
  • Gregg Williams +500
  • Freddie Kitchens +500
  • Dan Campbell +500
  • Jim Caldwell +600
  • Mike McCarthy +700
  • Bruce Arians +700
  • Adam Gase +900
  • Brian Flores +1000
  • Mike Munchak +1200
  • Nick Sirianni +1600
  • Jim Harbaugh +3300
  • Urban Meyer +5000

It's worth noting that these odds are hardly scientific and while wagerable, they are often created for entertainment and/or promotional purposes. The inclusion of McDaniels as the current favorite is also admittedly suspect, considering that unlike Williams and Kitchens, the Browns have yet to schedule an interview with the Barberton native, who according to The Canton Repository is  "enthusiastically interested" in a return to coach his hometown team.

Again, these odds should be taken with a grain of salt. But as the Browns' coaching search enters its second week, any breadcrumb is worth paying attention to.
