Former Cleveland Cavaliers forward Richard Jefferson: '100 years from now, people will still be talking about the 2016 Finals'

"Some titles……. they just mean more than other titles. That’s just the truth. I know it. You know it. Golden State knows it."

Technically, it's been less than three years since the Cleveland Cavaliers won the 2016 NBA title.

But for many Cavs fans, it feels like a lifetime ago that LeBron James and Co. were hoisting the Larry O'Brien Trophy in Oracle Arena.

In the time since Cleveland won its first world championship in 52 years, plenty has happened. Kevin Durant signed with the Golden State Warriors, the Cavs lost the 2017 NBA Finals, Kyrie Irving demanded a trade, the Cavs lost another Finals and LeBron James took his talents to Los Angeles.

Suffice to say, any reminder of the Cavs' 2016 world championship is a welcome one. And Monday, former Cavs forward Richard Jefferson provided just that with an essay for The Players' Tribune detailing his NBA career.

As one would imagine, with a career that spanned 17 seasons and eight teams, Jefferson had plenty of stories to tell, including what it was like to be college teammates with Gilbert Arenas and to be playing for the New Jersey Nets during 9/11. But most relevant to Cleveland are Jefferson's thoughts on his two-year run with the Cavs -- and the "Road Trippin'" co-host far from disappointed.

"Of all places for a last ride … Cleveland. People say, 'Oh Richard, you were ring chasing,'" Jefferson wrote. "And I say, “Hell yes I was ring chasing.

"But looking back on it, I really feel lucky, because I feel like 100 years from now, people will still be talking about the 2016 Finals.

"100 years from now, people will still be talking about the 2016 Finals.

"No matter what basketball evolves to.

"No matter what happens to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

"No matter what happens to the state of Ohio.

"No matter if the Warriors wins four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10 more titles. (Sorry, Draymond!)

"One thing will never change.

"You can never take away 1–3.

"One-freaking-three.

"We were dead. My story was over. Sad ending. Everybody go home. It was a good run.

"Done.

"Then, Kyrie Irving and LeBron James happened."

Jefferson went on to detail the Cavs' historic comeback from their 1-3 deficit, Irving's game-winning shot -- "He’s gonna … wait, is he gonna?… Oh f*** he’s really gonna… Oh f*** that went in!!!!!!!" -- the ensuing celebration and his belief that Cleveland should have repeated in 2017.

"I should have two rings," Jefferson wrote. "F***ing Kevin Durant, man!!!

"Still, it was a hell of a run."

No argument here.
