Another important part of the core of the Cleveland Indians' successful run over the past few years is about to sign elsewhere.
According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports/MLB Network/The Athletic, reliever Cody Allen is close to signing a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Angels.
ESPN's Jeff Passan adds that Allen had been looking for a deal in the range of $9 million dollars for one season.
Allen appeared in 70 games and collected 27 saves out of 32 opportunities for the Tribe in 2018, but suffered career-worsts in ERA (4.70) and home runs allowed (11). He became expendable for the Indians after the acquisition of Brad Hand at last year's trading deadline.
The 30-year-old Allen spent the first seven years of his career with the Indians. On July 4, 2018, the right-hander notched his 140th career save, breaking the club record held by Bob Wickman. He has a 2.98 lifetime ERA and 149 saves.
Allen joins a long list of veterans who have departed the Indians via free agency or trade in this offseason, alongside Michael Brantley, Edwin Encarnacion, Andrew Miller, Lonnie Chisenhall, Yan Gomes, Josh Donaldson, and Yonder Alonso.
