Cleveland Browns sign WR Jaelen Strong to free agent contract

According to his representatives, wide receiver Jaelen Strong has agreed to a free agent contract with the Cleveland Browns.

As they entered the offseason, finding pass-catchers to pair with Baker Mayfield figured to be one of the Cleveland Browns' primary concerns.

On Wednesday, the team attempted to address that very need, signing free agent wide receiver Jaelen Strong to a contract.

Strong's representatives at Ambition Sports Management Group took to Instagram to announce the deal, of which terms are not yet available.

A former 4-star recruit, the 6-foot-2, 220-pound Strong entered the 2015 NFL Draft as one of its top receiver prospects after putting together back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons at Arizona State. In 2014, he tallied 82 catches to go along with 1,165 yards and 10 touchdowns and was projected by some to be a first-round pick.

Strong, however, slid all the way to the third round, where the Houston Texans selected him with the No. 70 overall pick. In two seasons in Houston, he recorded 28 receptions for 292 yards and 3 touchdowns before being released a week into the 2017 season.

After being claimed off waivers by the Jacksonville Jaguars, Strong tallied 3 catches for 38 yards and a touchdown in his Week 16 debut with the team. But a torn ACL brought his Jaguars tenure to an end -- and ultimately cost him the entirety of the 2018 season.

As currently constructed, the Browns currently have wide receivers Jarvis Landry, Ricardo Louis, Antonio Callaway, Damion Ratley, Blake Jackson and Daniel Williams under contract. General manager John Dorsey has also expressed interest in re-signing Rashard Higgins and Breshad Perriman, each of whom are slated to become free agents this offseason.
