U.S. Marshals arrest Akron man who stole car with woman inside, pushed her from vehicle

He tried to run from officers but was quickly apprehended

AKRON, Ohio — U.S. Marshals on Friday announced the arrest of a man they say was a violent fugitive wanted in a car theft and abduction.

Christopher Hastings, 32, was arrested Friday morning at Cole Avenue and Moore Street in Akron. When officers tried to arrest Hastings, he tried to flee on foot but was soon captured.

Hastings was wanted by the Portage County Sheriff's Department for an incident in which he and a 28-year-old woman asked a man for a ride after being released from jail.

The man refused to give Hastings a ride, so Hastings stole the man's car and drove away with the man's 72-year-old wife inside.

Officers found the wife three hours later, sitting by the side of a road in Franklin Township. She said she had been pushed from the vehicle.

Hastings was booked into the Portage County Jail.
