Northeast Ohio communities prepare for more flooding

"We could use everybody's prayers, you know. But all we can do is roll with it."

CANAL FULTON, Ohio — It's a commute to work like none other for Dr. Ajay Nair.

"A little different than usual," he smiled.

The family practice doctor from Community Health Care had patients to see, but flood waters got in his way.

The waters have trapped Nair and about 40 families in the Ledgeview Estates subdivision, since a section of the only road out of the neighborhood is under 3 and a half feet of water.

So the good doctor, with the help of good neighbors, found a way to make his rounds. He and his daughter took a canoe!

"I never thought I'd be doing something like that, going to work," said Nair. "People need seeing. People have trouble getting here too, so..."

Flooding in Canal Fulton is creeping toward historic levels. The overflowing Tuscarawas River is now a tourist attraction, even for the locals, who gathered by the dozens at Heritage Park to snap photos of the flooding. Most of the younger residents have never seen flooding this severe, while others compared it to flooding last seen in 1969.

Downstream in Massillon, flooded out residents helplessly wait to see how much more they'll lose.  While further north, the swelling Tusacarawas river has claimed even more homes in Clinton. Businesses like Clinton Auto Repair are also under siege, where everything with electronics is probably not salvageable after sitting in more than three feet of water at its peak.

And with more rain rolling in, the concerns are rising along with the water.

But as long as there's a way, the doc will be in.
