Driver accused of killing cyclist in Avon Lake hit-and-run crash appears in court

AVON LAKE, Ohio — The driver accused of killing a cyclist in a hit-and-run crash was in court Thursday morning for a brief hearing.

64-year-old Sharan Carr, of Sheffield Lake, is facing charges of operating a vehicle under the influence (OVI), aggravated vehicular homicide, hit skip and reasonable control.

During Thursday's hearing, the case was referred to the Lorain County Common Pleas Court with her previously issued $100,000 bond continued.

Police say Carr struck and killed 66-year-old Richard "Randy" Knilans on Lake Road and did not stop. 

Knilans was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he later died. 

Carr was arrested later by Sheffield Lake police.
