CLEVELAND —  "You Said It" is a reader participation column based on the premise that if you don't laugh about Cleveland sports you'll cry.

And that if you do laugh about Cleveland sports, you might still end up crying. But at least friends and family will like being around you more.

YOU SAID IT

Bud: Browns fans gobbled up about 30,000 training camp tickets in an hour's time. I’m speaking in my best Allen Iverson voice here when I say, “We talking about practice. Not a game. Practice.” — Tim, C-Town.

It's hard to quantify the enthusiasm that comes with going 1-18-1 in season openers instead of 1-19.

Bud: Let me get this straight. J.R. Smith wouldn’t play for Cleveland in basketball but is returning to play for Cleveland vs. The World in the All-Star celebrity softball game? Who thought this was a good idea? Was Keith Hernandez not available? — Billy Boy.

In fact, no. Still rehabbing.

Bud: Seriously, how many legitimate nominees could the NBA come up with for its Sportsmanship Award? — Jim Corrigan, Fairview Park.

More than you think. For instance any and all Celtics who refrained from giving Kyrie Irving a wedgie every day of the season received immediate consideration.

Hi Bud: It’s wonderful for Thome and Alomar to be Grand Marshals (in the All-Star parade.) But why aren’t Omar and Kenny included? — Cathy.

Not sure. I just know they were going to ask Albert but then someone remembered the parade scene from Animal House.

Bud: It’s Fashion Week in Paris.  Was OBJ modeling there? — O. Bill Stone.

Impressive. A You Said It contributor knowing it’s Fashion Week in Paris is the most surprising development this side of sportswriters quoting Shakespeare.

Bud: Now the Royals know what it’s like to be Handed a victory. — Vince G, Cincinnati.

I see what you did there. Please don’t do it again.

Bud: I know Terry Francona is a popular manager with fans and the media. But is it time to look at how he overuses certain pitchers to their eventual detriment? — Jim Miller.

Jim? Nice try, Andrew.

Bud: Any truth to the rumor when Leonys Martin and Lindor argued on the bench that Martin swung at Lindor but missed. — Angelo, Cleveland.

You Said It “winners” are still bottom-of-the-order hitters.
