Browns have spoken to Kareem Hunt about 'situation' at Cleveland bar

The Cleveland Browns say they have spoken to running back Kareem Hunt about a situation that occurred at a bar in downtown Cleveland over the weekend.

CLEVELAND -- Cleveland Browns spokesperson Peter John-Baptiste told WKYC that the team is aware of a "situation" at a downtown Cleveland bar involving Kareem Hunt that occurred over the weekend and has spoken to the running back about it, but will not have any further comment at this time.

On Monday, rumors circulated via social media that Hunt had been involved in an altercation at Barley House on W. 6th St. on Saturday night. Barley House owner Bobby George confirmed to WKYC that Hunt was at the establishment, and noted that something did happen, although he didn't believe it to be anything serious.

“I believe it was a small argument with one of his friends,” George said. “People blew it out of proportion.”

On Monday afternoon, TMZ Sports released a video of Hunt talking to a group of police officers outside of Barley House. A witness told the website Hunt was involved in a physical altercation with another man, although the witness was unsure if the fight was "real" or if the two were horsing around.

Hunt left the scene without incident and no police report has been filed according to police spokeswoman Sgt. Jennifer Ciaccia.

The Browns signed Hunt in February two months after the Kansas City Chiefs released the Pro Bowl running back after security camera footage showed him kicking and shoving a woman at a downtown Cleveland hotel. Following his release, the former Willoughby South standout opted to undergo alcohol and anger management counseling, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

Upon signing Hunt, Browns general manager John Dorsey said that the 23-year-old would be held to a "zero tolerance policy." Speaking to reporters at Browns OTAs in May, Hunt -- who has been baptized and spoken at local schools since signing with his hometown team -- expressed remorse for his past actions, which resulted in an eight-game suspension to start the 2019 season.

Cleveland Browns running back Kareem Hunt believes playing in his hometown will be good for him, despite his prior issues in Northeast Ohio.

“I’ve got to earn everybody’s trust in the whole organization,” Hunt said. “I’m not willing to mess that up.

“I’m just taking it very seriously. Like day-by-day, I’m just making the best decisions at the time and place and doing everything I can and prevent something like that from happening again.”
