BARBERTON, Ohio — It's a bit of a hike, but WKYC.com is headed to Summit County for some football!

This week's High School Football Game of the Week will feature the Barberton Magics hosting the Massillon Washington Tigers on Friday night. The matchup took home 50% of the vote in our latest poll, easily outpacing the other two contenders.

Massillon is by far the greatest football program in all of Ohio and perhaps in America, with 24 state championships and nine national championships. However, they have not won a state title since 1970 (before the playoff era), and this year's team featuring six Division I college recruits is looking to end that drought. They are led on offense by junior wide receiver Jayden Ballard (an Ohio State commit) and the school's all-time leading passer Aiden Longwell at quarterback, while safety Luke Murphy anchors the defense.

On the flip side, Barberton has never won a state football title but has staked a nice reputation as a Division II contender. They finished last year's regular season undefeated, and sit at 5-2 this year thanks to the efforts of players like Chase Haywood and Markim McKinnie. The Magics have not played Massillon since 1995 (a 22-20 loss), and the Tigers haven't made the trek to Barberton since 1957.

As has always been the case, the game will be featured in its entirety on a live audio broadcast that will air on WKYC.com, the 3News app, and the 3News Facebook and YouTube pages this Friday starting around 6:50 p.m. Dave "Dino" DeNatale will have the call, and full video highlights will be featured that night at 11 on 3News' What's Next.
