Cleveland Browns WR Odell Beckham Jr.’s 89-yard TD catch named Biggest Fantasy Play of 2019 from DraftKings

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was honored with the Biggest Fantasy Play of 2019 Award from DraftKings Monday.

CLEVELAND — Cleveland Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. struggled to find a consistent role within the framework of Freddie Kitchens’ offense during the 2019 season, but he still found ways to make impactful and memorable plays.

One of those plays, an 89-yard touchdown catch against the New York Jets in a Week 2 Monday Night Football matchup at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, was hailed as the biggest fantasy play of the season by DraftKings.com.

According to the daily fantasy football site, which announced their 2019 DraftKings Fantasy Football Awards on Twitter Monday, Beckham Jr.’s catch-and-run was worth 18.9 fantasy points

“OBJ’s 89-yard touchdown in 2019 was a huge play to match his larger than life personality,” the narrator of the brief video said. “In Week 2, the stylish star grabbed a short pass and left Jets defenders in the dust.”

Beckham Jr. made his return to MetLife Stadium, which he called home for five seasons with the New York Giants, and in the shadows of New York City and the bright lights of Broadway, the multi-time Pro Bowler put on a show late in the third quarter.

Running a slant route from the left side of the field with the Browns backed up deep in their own territory, Beckham Jr. caught a pass from quarterback Baker Mayfield and sprinted down the field for his first touchdown with the Browns.

Beckham Jr.’s touchdown gave the Browns a 23-3 lead over the Jets with 3:32 to play in the third quarter, and that ended up being the final score of the game.

With the Jets bringing a heavy rush in the middle of the field, Beckham Jr. ran a short slant, caught the ball at the Cleveland 21-yard line, and then, sprinted the final 79 yards untouched down the left side of the field for the touchdown.

As if to say, “I’m home,” Beckham Jr. pretended to turn a key, open a door and threw both of his arms up before his teammates joined the celebration in the end zone.

Playing alongside his longtime friend and former LSU teammate, Jarvis Landry, Beckham Jr. gained 1,035 yards and scored four touchdowns on his 74 catches for the Browns during the 2019 season. Beckham Jr. averaged 14.0 yards per reception after arriving in an offseason trade from the Giants.
