RICHFIELD, Ohio — A Richfield Police Officer is being praised on social media for going above and beyond the call of duty for a family in need.

Officer Thomas “Bart” Randolph II was driving on I-77 South when he saw a car pulled over on the highway.

According to Gabrielle Hicks, her family was heading home after a Cavs game when they got a flat tire near Richfield.  She said it was late at night, pitch black and raining. Thankfully, that's when they saw the flashing lights of Randolph's police car.

Randolph set out flares, offered to take them to the nearest gas station and said he would come back in 30-minutes to check on them.

When the officer returned, he helped Hicks' father change the tire and waited behind them until they pulled back on the highway.

In a Facebook post, Gabrielle thanked the helping officer. “I’ve never seen an officer go the extra mile like this before with my own eyes. So, officer Bart from Richfield -- thank you so much for taking care of my family tonight. Thank you for going the extra mile in the freezing rain.  You restored some faith in my heart today. More Officer Bart’s in the world please…”

Richfield Police Chief Michael Swanson quoted one the comments in the Facebook post about Officer Randolph, "#BeAnOfficerBart."
