20 shot, three killed overnight in Cleveland

The youngest reported victim is an 8-year-old girl who was shot in the arm

CLEVELAND — Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson and Police Chief Calvin D. Williams are reminding Northeast Ohioans to stay safe over the holiday weekend after crime rates rise drastically.

"Gun violence and violent crime is on the rise," says the note from Jackson and Williams, "this holiday weekend specifically, the city of Cleveland has seen a large number of incidents involving shootings and tragically, three people killed. There is no excuse for this violent activity and police are actively pursuing the perpetrators."

Cleveland Police report that an 8-year-old girl was shot in the arm around 9:30 p.m., and is currently in stable condition at this time.

A fatal crash also occurred overnight, after a vehicle hit a crane on Detroit Ave.

The city is reminding anyone who may have information regarding an active investigation to call the police. Anonymous information can be provided via crimestoppers by calling 216-25-CRIME.
