CLEVELAND — The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory that will take effect from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday for the following counties in Northeast Ohio:

  • Ashland
  • Cuyahoga
  • Erie
  • Lorain
  • Holmes
  • Huron
  • Mahoning
  • Medina
  • Portage
  • Richland
  • Stark
  • Summit
  • Wayne

In addition, these counties will be under the advisory from 1-8 p.m.:

  • Carroll
  • Tuscarawas

According to the National Weather Service, the Heat Index could reach 103 on Thursday. The high temperatures and high humidity could cause heat illnesses to occur.

You are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.

Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Remember, heat stroke is an emergency: Call 911 if you or someone you know is suffering.
