Democratic vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris talks economy, COVID-19, and more during visit to Cleveland

Harris made several stops in Northeast Ohio on Saturday with just 10 days left until election day

CLEVELAND — During an appearance at Cuyahoga Community College on Saturday, Democratic vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris spoke about the importance of Ohio in the upcoming election and how she hopes that Cleveland -- as well as Ohio -- will get out the vote.

"The people will make the decision, because the power is indeed with the people," Sen. Harris told supporters at Tri-C. "We were out and engaged with people who are early voting and people are standing in line, they've been waiting in line for hours because we know our power and we are not going to let anyone take our power away from us."

While discussing the economy, Harris said: "There are two clear choices in this election. On the one hand you have Joe Biden who says, 'the way I measure the economy-- if you want me to tell you how the economy is doing-- then tell me how are working people doing in America.' That's how Joe Biden measures our economy."

"Then you have Donald Trump. When you ask him 'how's the economy doing,' you know him, he says 'the economy is great, the economy is great' he says," Senator Harris continued, "and then you ask him 'well how so are you measuring this so-called greatness of this economy' and he talks about the stock market."

The California Senator also addressed claims that President Trump has instigated racial division in the country in refusing condemn white supremacy and The Proud Boys, a white-supremacist group, to "stand back and stand by" during the first presidential debate.

Harris said that this election, for many, is about "honoring ancestors" including the late civil rights pioneer, Representative John Lewis, as well as suffragettes who pushed for women's right to vote.

The appearance at Tri-C is the end of an eventful day for Harris, who earlier today visited several spots in Northeast Ohio.

As voters were lined up outside the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections early Saturday afternoon, they were greeted by vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris.

"You are going to make the difference!" she told the crowd. "You are going to make the decision about your future, about your family's future. It is through the voice of your vote, and you have the power. The power is with the people, and you know that. That's why you're standing in this line today, and I just came to say thank you!"

It comes as Harris visits Cleveland with just 10 days until the presidential election between Joe Biden and President Donald Trump.

Harris' plane landed at Burke Lakefront Airport at 11 a.m., and the prominent Democrat answered several questions from reporters, saying "listen, Ohio is going to help determine the outcome of this election, there’s no question about it."

Senator Harris was also spotted in downtown Cleveland, grabbing lunch with Congresswoman Marcia Fudge at ZanZibar Soul Fusion.

The visit to Northeast Ohio comes just eight days after the Senator canceled a trip to Cleveland following the news of two staff members testing positive for the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

During an appearance last Friday on Cleveland radio station WZAK, Senator Harris told listeners, "to the people of Cleveland, and to your listeners, I do believe that the road to victory travels through Cleveland, and travels through Ohio."

Recent polls show President Trump and former vice president Joe Biden in a virtual tied-race in Ohio.
