Lake Humane Society's pet food pantry open to county residents in need

The location will provide dog & cat food every two weeks.

MENTOR, Ohio — The Lake Humane Society's Auggie's Pet Food Pantry pantry is now open to all Lake County residents in need of pet food. While mostly for cats and dogs, food for other types of pets may be available, if requested.

The pantry is in the Humane Society's annex at 7564 Tyler Boulevard in Mentor. They are open the first and third Wednesday of each month from 1-3 p.m. Appointments are not necessary.

Customers should bring a current driver's license, mortgage/rent statement or utility bill to prove residency. There are no income requirements.

The food provided has been purchased through grant funding and bulk discount buying programs through large pet food companies such as Purina.

The pantry is named after Auggie, a boxer mix who came to Lake Humane Society through a humane investigation in 2017. Auggie was emaciated, dehydrated, anemic, and close to death when he was found by the humane agent, but pulled though and made quite a recovery, and is now a healthy happy dog living his best life with a great family!

The food pantry was named for Auggie because of his resilience when faced with adversity. For more information on Auggie's Pet Food Pantry, please visit lakehumane.org.
