The Akron Police Department is asking for the public's assistance to find two groups of males who are believed to have been involved in two different carjackings in Akron Tuesday afternoon.

The first incident happened in the 800 block of Patterson Avenue when officers responded to a call from a 17-year-old victim, claiming he had been approached by a group of males and that the men had ripped his car key from his person and driven off in his Kia Sorento.

The group of males drove off in the vehicle in an unknown direction.

Just minutes after the first carjacking, police responded to a second incident in the 1300 block of Kenmore Boulevard, where a 31-year-old woman reported being carjacked while sitting in her Dodge Durango at the Sunrise Market.

The woman told police that three teenage males jumped into her car, two of them bearing weapons, and use one of the guns to hit her in the head. The woman was able to escape and the suspects drove off.

Police say the vehicle was later recovered on Kenmore Boulevard.

The suspects in this incident are also described as Black males, aged 15 to 20. One of the suspects involved in this incident was caught on security footage wearing a sweatshirt with “Champion” on the front.

At this time, police say there is no indication that the two incidents are related.

The Akron Police Department Detective Bureau is asking that anyone with information on these carjackings come forward at (330) 375-2490. You can also call the Summit County Crimestoppers at (330) 434-COPS. Calls can remain anonymous.
