Baker Mayfield might not be the only member of the Cleveland Browns backfield returning this week. Ahead of practice on Wednesday, running back Nick Chubb said that he is hopeful that he'll be able to play against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.

Should Chubb return, it would mark his first game since suffering a calf injury in the Browns' Week 5 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. The injury forced Cleveland's two-time Pro Bowl running back to miss the Browns' last two games, a loss to the Arizona Cardinals and a win vs. the Denver Broncos.

Kareem Hunt started in Chubb's place vs. the Cardinals, rushing for 66 yards on 14 attempts before suffering a calf injury of his own. With Hunt placed on injured reserve, third-stringer D'Ernest Johnson received the first start of his career vs. Denver, rushing for 146 yards and one touchdown on 22 carries in the Browns' 17-14 win.

While Chubb initially returned to practice on Monday, Wednesday will mark the most extensive on-field work he's gone through since suffering the injury. The Georgia product said that he'll see how his calf reacts to Wednesday's workload before ultimately making a determination on his availability moving forward.

As for Mayfield, the Browns starting quarterback is also expected to practice on Wednesday after missing last week's win vs. the Broncos with a shoulder injury. Like Chubb, he will first need to see how his body responds to practice throughout the week before knowing whether or not he can play vs. Pittsburgh.
