Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost issues statement on shooting death of Jayland Walker by Akron police

'The goal is the truth, and we need to talk to anyone who knows anything,' Yost said. 'Silence will never produce justice.'

AKRON, Ohio — Editor's Note: The video above is from a Sunday afternoon press conference from Akron Police Chief Steve Mylett providing updates on the Jayland Walker shooting death.

As protests continue in Akron as body cam footage was released today in the officer-involved shooting death of Jayland Walker, Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost has issued a statement in response to the release of the footage today by the City of Akron.

"People want and deserve answers, and they shall have them. BCI will conduct a complete, fair and expert investigation," Yost said, referring to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation's handling of the inquiry. "Body-worn camera footage is just one view of the whole picture – before drawing conclusions, the full review must take place. The goal is the truth, and we need to talk to anyone who knows anything. Silence will never produce justice."

WARNING: Images and video will contain disturbing and graphic content.

Yost also announced that the full investigative file will be made public at the conclusion of the case in an effort of full transparency. Yost encouraged any additional civilian witnesses to talk to BCI investigators by calling 855-BCI-OHIO (855-224-6446) or by filling a tip online.

Walker died last Monday following a chase and pursuit involving the Akron Police Department. Chief Steve Mylett confirmed Walker suffered more than 60 wounds to his body, with the eight officers on scene later claiming the 25-year-old made a "motion" that caused to fear for their lives. Walker's gun was not on him when he was shot.
