13-year-old fatally shot, 15-year-old shot and injured in Bedford

A 13-year-old was fatally shot and a 15-year-old was shot and injured in Bedford on Sunday.

CLEVELAND — A 13-year-old boy was fatally shot and a 15-year-old was shot and injured in an incident that took place in Bedford on Sunday.

According to Bedford Police, Bedford Police officers and Bedford Fire Medics were dispatched to the area of Corkhill and Lee Rd S. at approximately 6:52 p.m. for a report of a male shot. Upon arrival, officers learned that two victims, ages 15 and 13, had been shot.

Both victims were transported to MetroHealth Medical Center for treatment with the 13-year-old boy dying as a result of his injuries.

The 13-year-old boy has been identified by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office as Hysheen Thomas.

"A young life taken. Who knows what that kid could have been, gone on to do in his life," said Brian Shimko.

Shimko lives in the neighborhood where the shooting happened. He was one of many neighbors who told 3News they were shocked and upset by the senseless violence.

"I've never heard a story about someone being shot around here, I'm originally from Maple Heights, but you never really heard of stuff like that going on in Bedford," Shimko said.

Many in the area said they are now on edge, hopeful the suspect will be caught and a tragic scene like this doesn't happen again.

"If I'm ever not home, do I have to worry about that," Shimko added. "Is there going to be more gunshots? Is this a random thing, or is the person still around here?"
