Director Neill Blomkamp is working on an upcoming movie in the iconic "Alien" sci-fi franchise.

Neill Blomkamp, welcome to a universe full of fanged Xenomorphs, deadly "facehuggers" and Sigourney Weaver.

The District 9 filmmaker returns to the world of extra-terrestrial sci-fi with a deal to develop and direct a script for a new chapter in the long-running Alien sci-fi franchise, according to 20th Century Fox.

The movie would take place after the events of Prometheus 2, the 2016 follow-up to the Alien prequel starring Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender.

Ridley Scott, who made the first Alien movie in 1979, is producing the Blomkamp movie and also producing and directing Prometheus 2.

Blomkamp confirmed his involvement Wednesday with a post on his Instagram account of concept art and the statement "Um... So I think it's officially my next film. #alien."

But the director, whose new film Chappie is in theaters March 6, originally hinted at his involvement with a series of New Year's Day photos and concept art on his Instagram, including one of Alien fan-favorite characters Ripley (Weaver) and Hicks (Michael Biehn).
