So fetch: 'Mean Girls' musical comes to Cleveland's Playhouse Square

The hit movie 'Mean Girls' has been adapted to the stage by Tina Fey and her husband, Jeff Richmond.

CLEVELAND — The hit movie "Mean Girls" has jumped from the screen and onto the stage.

The show was written by Tina Fey, with the music composed by her husband and northeast Ohio native, Jeff Richmond. Now, it’s made its way back to Richmond’s old stomping grounds, in Cleveland at Playhouse Square.

The "Mean Girls" musical tells the same story as the hit film. It’s about a girl that goes from being home schooled in Africa to a suburban high school, and discovers all the drama that comes with it.

It’s a comedy that the cast is hoping will have your side splitting, but also your eyes opening to the deeper message.

“Find yourself, find where you belong, what makes you, you, and what makes you special,” said Megan Masako Haley, who plays Gretchen Wieners.

“I think it’s big about how we treat other people,” added Jonalyn Saxer, who plays Karen Smith. “You don’t have to be best friends with somebody, but you still should treat them as a human, with dignity and respect.”

"Mean Girls" opened on Broadway in April 2018 with the national tour playing Connor Palace in Cleveland through Sunday, Dec. 22. For ticket information, click here.
