Northeast Ohio Lebanese community looks to support those affected by the explosion in Beirut

At least 145 people died in the blast, & hundreds of thousands of homes are uninhabitable.

CLEVELAND — The local Lebanese community is coming together, hoping to bring some relief to those injured after the massive explosion in Beirut on Tuesday.

Pierre Bejjani is the chairman of the Cleveland area chapter of the American Lebanese Community Council. He says now is the time to help support those overseas who lost so much after the blast leveled buildings and injured and killed dozens.

Bejjani's family is okay, but he knows that's not the case for so many others.

"Really a devastating feeling," he said. "It is so surreal, that I'm still numb from it."

Pierre says he'd like to help the Lebanese Red Cross, since the explosion devastated several hospitals. He wants to see the United State and Northeast Ohioans rally around the Lebansese community in a true time of need.

At least 145 people were killed in the explosion and dozens more are still missing. In addition, 250,000 homes are uninhabitable.
